In the world of Terca Lumireis, cities are protected from monsters by ancient devices called blastia, powered by a mysterious energy known as aer. Yuri Lowell, a former Imperial Knight from the lower quarter of the capital Zaphias, becomes involved in a journey after pursuing a stolen blastia core. Along the way he meets Estellise, a noble young woman searching for Yuri's childhood friend Flynn. Their travels bring them into conflict with corrupt officials, guilds, monsters and the growing danger surrounding the world's dependence on blastia.
The manga adaptation of Tales of Vesperia condenses the early part of the RPG into a fast-moving fantasy adventure centered on Yuri Lowell. Its strongest appeal is the contrast between Yuri's personal sense of justice and the Empire's formal authority, especially through his relationship with Flynn. Estelle, Repede and the growing party add warmth and variety while the blastia system gives the story a clear fantasy-technological identity.
