Synopsis
Senju, a manifestation of the Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, appears in the human world through a Buddhist statue. His mission is to find and protect Sachi, a cheerful and stubborn girl who is the incarnation of Miroku, the future Buddha. As forces connected to Mara move against her, Senju and Sachi are drawn into a spiritual battle where Buddhist figures, statues and supernatural powers become part of an adventurous shounen journey.
Butsu Zone is Hiroyuki Takei's 1997 supernatural action manga and an important precursor to ideas later associated with Shaman King. The series blends Buddhist mythology, reincarnation, spiritual combat and comedy around the partnership between Senju and Sachi. Its short nineteen-chapter run moves quickly, but establishes a distinctive mythology in which Buddhas can manifest through statues and spiritual conflict becomes literal action-adventure.

The original Weekly Shonen Jump run lasted from March 3 to August 14, 1997. Shueisha collected 19 chapters in 3 tankobon volumes, with the first volume released July 4, 1997 and the third on December 4, 1997. A later two-volume re-release also exists and should not replace the original three-volume count.
