Akitsune Hiwatari is a lethargic sixteen-year-old high school student whose routine changes after he accidentally takes home the bag of a mysterious young girl named List. Inside is an antique wristwatch called Cinderella, one of many magical objects tied to Grimm fairy tales. The watch can restore things to the state they were in twenty-four hours earlier, but after Akitsune uses it, the artifact fuses with his arm and makes him a target. List, a young expert charged with recovering these dangerous objects, moves in with him and the two begin searching for the scattered Grimm items—each with a different supernatural ability and an owner who may not surrender it willingly.
Kataribe no List turns Grimm fairy tales into a catalog of supernatural artifacts rather than direct retellings.
